Jimmy Musinda's sister and brother:

In mid-January Johnny was given a note from James (Jimmy) Musinda, from whom we buy fruit on an more-or-less regular basis.

THE BIG PROBLEMS I HAVE AT HOME.

I have my young sister who is doing Grade 9.  The teacher told her to go back home to correct the money school fees and Exam fees.  By[At] this moment she [is] at home looking for the money.  Whereby my father passed away a long time ago my mother she is too old whereby she can not offer to send her at school [in fact we've found out that his 'mother' is actually his aunt but not even a blood relative].

I have also my young brother who is doing Grade seven.  He dont have books, uniforms, pen and shoes so the teacher send him back also.  He is at home.

This two problems it has make me sick.  I am only praying day and night about these problems.

By James Musinda

Jimmy Musinda is 21 years old and has finished his Grade 12.  He has never really had terribly good marks at school (probably as a result of financial difficulties at home), but is determined to go to medical school and take some kind of pharmacy/medical/nursing degree.  And he's not just sitting at home waiting for it to happen.  He has given Johnny about a half a dozen hand-written letters to be transcribed onto the computer for e-mailing away.  These are letters to such places as the Council of Heads of Medical Schools, London and to Glaxo Smith Klein in the States and Britain.  He is determined to get ahead in the world, but is desperately constrained by poverty.

Jimmy is a double orphan and both of his real parents died 'a long time ago'.  Our housekeeper Elliya (Ellie) at Kapani is from the same village as Jimmy and knows him and his circumstances.  She says he is one of the most determined young people in the area and is desperately poor.  He has in fact brought up his younger brother and his sister all by himself.  This appeal is from him, but not for himself but for his young sister and his younger brother.
