Dear Sir,
APPLICATION FOR SPONSORSHIP
I am hereby applying for above mentioned headline. I am a Zambian orphan aged 17. I am a nephew to Isaac the well known weaver of baskets at Chiwawatala.
I am suppose to complete my education next term but I have failed due to financial problem. Kindly assist me we are paying K600,000 per term. I will be very much glad if my application shall be taken into consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Francisco Nkhoma
Note: This letter is from the nephew of Isacc Banda for whom Johnny and Grant are sponsoring a basket-weaver's course in Choma, Zambia. The letter was accompanied by a photocopied document from the Zambian Police Service from Gladys Nkhoma, stating that 'Francis Nkhoma is the second-born child of the late Clement Nkhoma and he was born on 27/11/1984 and has no birth record'. The document was sworn before a Commissioner of Oaths on 12 September 2005. The sum of Zambian Kwacha 600,000 is the equivalent of about US$200 or £150.
Francisco's Sponsorship
Francisco being sponsored by my sister Pat Jacobsen of Sylvan Lake, Alberta in Canada. He is 21 years old, is a double orphan and his guardian and uncle is Isaac Banda, who Johnny and I have sponsored for a basket-weaving course in Choma. He is in Grade 12 and only needs two terms of sponsorship.
For the term beginning 8 January Francesco needs:
Kw 300,000 - school fees
Kw 200,000 - 2 pair of school uniforms
Kw 60,000 - travel money
Kw 50,000 - school bag
Kw 60,000 - school shoes
Kw 110,000 - text books
Kw 15,000 - pens
Kw 30,000 - calculator
Kw 80,000 - groceries
Kw 100,000 - pocket money
Kw 50,000 - medical fee
Kw 50,000 - school fuel fee
Kw1,000,000 - total sponsorship
This amount plus Kw90,000 travelling expenses was given to Francisco's uncle Isaac on Saturday Jan 6, 2007. Isaac was to accompany Francisco to Chipata (about 4 hours bus journey) where he will pay his school fees, and buy Francisco the necessary school supplies.
This amount is equivalent to about US$200. Last year Isaac had to borrow Kw200,000 (about US$50) in order to enable Francisco to complete his Grade 11. I am hoping that my sister Pat will provide this additional funding.
