The re-opening ceremony |
The Re-opening Ceremony took place at the Clinic at 11.00 on June 14. Grant did the nod towards African dress whereas Johnny, greatly to the enjoyment of everyone present, chose to nod towards Scotland. Everyone arrived very late, and then someone realised that the Chief expected to be collected from his Palace about 25km away. Long delays while Jo Pope when to fetch him. So we started about 12.30. The Chief expressed his disappointment at not having been shown around the Clinic beforehand (although I went on the days beforehand 4 times to try to arrange to meet him to arrange a 'showing'). Johnny proclaimed, "Chief, you call the shots around here", and gave him a quick tour while Grant tried to hold the proceedings together in their absence. Otherwise it was fine except for Grant having a wobbly after the thank-you from Emmanuel and the workmen. There were delicious snacks afterwards and it seemed to be enjoyed by all present.
