Marking out of the baseboard and bridges

 

 

          Each notch in the lateral string-spacing stick had to be cut very precisely.  Here a home-made knife was used which was flat on one side (here the side laid against the V notch in the walnut block) and sharpened on the other side.  This prevented the knife from cutting into and damaging the block.  Two cuts were made and the excess wood was removed.
