Marking out of the baseboard and bridges

In the bass, space must be left on the bridge for the back-pins used to secure the strings on the bridge where there is no string side draught.  Here the separate bass section of bridge has been temporarily placed in position and the approximate position of the bridge pins and bridge back-pinning is being marked out using the lateral string-spacing stick.

The bass strings are all compressed together moving them away from the spine.  The position of the compressed bass bridge pinning was therefore marked along the back edge of the stick, and the regular spacing of the registers and nut-pin spacing was marked along the front edge of the same stick.
