It can be difficult to distinguish a cow from a bull elephant because the male genitalia are normally retracted.  But the females have a sharply angled forehead whereas the males, as here, have a rounded forehead.  Have a look at some of the other photographs on this site for other photographs of elephants and see if you can tell the difference.
