Making the measuring and marking-out sticks

 

 

 

          This photograph shows the small notch in the stick being made using the cutting block and a knife, sharpened on one side only so that it cut the stick and not the cutting block.  The cutting block was positioned using the vernier scale and fixed in position with the clamp, and then the 'V'- shaped notch was cut out of the marking-out stick.
