The historically-based tuning hammer

Elaborate tuning hammer

The design of this tuning hammer is based on an antique hammer in private possession in Italy.  It is probably therefore Italian in origin.  The photograph, however, is not of the original but of one of the copies made for us.   It is made of cast steel, and is hand-finished so that each hammer is different from all of the others - the hexagonal part of the shaft, for example, has been filed to shape and finished by hand.

The handle part of the tuning hammer is exactly 3 Neapolitan once long, and the total length of the hammer is exactly 5 once.  The hammer has a tapered tuning pin hole and so fits hand-made tuning pins accurately.  The hammer is comfortable and a makes tuning a real pleasure.
